Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Getting a driving privileges back
Q. Reinstating an old license or permit
Q: I have a minor crime in my background. Do I need to declare that on a job application?
A: Yes! But wait! In Ohio if you have been convicted of no
more than one (1) crime and that crime is non-violent, you can often get
it expunged. Expunging a crime hides the crime to just about
everyone. The only time they can open the sealed files is if you
again commit a crime and the new crime you committed might be worse if
you had been convicted of it before. Then the police can go peek
in the file and if it does make your new crime worse, they can open the
file for all to see. The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland has a great
brochure describing the process (click here).

Q: I've lost my driver's license. I simply can't figure out how to get my license back. Getting a job is so hard without being able to drive!
A: The judges know that, too! And they will work with you.
They will help you understand. For those not privy, Ohio driver's
license law can be complex and very difficult to understand. Add
to that a person who doesn't realize the gravity of driving without a
license and soon the person is so deep underwater it seems they will
never again reach the surface. There are sometimes free brief
advice clinics available (check
here). Rocky River Municipal Court judges hold special dates
to help people who have been charged. Garfield Heights does the
same. If you can't figure out what to do, contact our ministry
chair (click

Q. Many years ago I had a license or a permit. I decided to work in another area and let my license or permit lapse. Can I get that license or permit back?
A. Check our mentor page on the left. If someone listed there works in that area, give that person a call to see what he or she knows about the process. If we don't have a mentor who is in your field, then e-mail our chair (click here) or call the rectory at (440) 777-5050 and ask for Mary Ogan. We may be able to find someone who can help.
